The delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Uzbekistan was officially accredited in Uzbekistan on May 31, 2011. The first head of the Representative Office, Norbert Justen, presented his credentials to the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on May 1, 2012.
The current representative office in Tashkent is one of over 140 such offices of the European Union located around the world.
The role of the Representative Office as a diplomatic mission representing the European Union is to provide, explain and implement the European Union's policy with regard to Uzbekistan, as well as to analyze and report on strategies and areas of development of Uzbekistan.
