Father Yakov Krotov (born June 22, 1957) is a Russian Orthodox priest, journalist, writer, and translator known for his independent and often critical stance on religious and political issues in Russia. Ordained in the early 1990s, he is associated with the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church (ROAC), a jurisdiction outside the Moscow Patriarchate. Krotov founded Religious and Philosophical Radio, where he discusses theology and social issues, and has translated works by thinkers like C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton into Russian. A vocal advocate for religious freedom and human rights, he critiques the close ties between the Russian Orthodox Church and the state, promoting reformist and liberal views that have made him a controversial figure. Despite opposition, he remains active as a public intellectual, engaging in debates on faith, politics, and morality in contemporary Russia.
